Gowen Marine, as it is now known, began in 1908 as a machine repair shop on Fore Street in Portland. The founders of the company, Harry and Fred Williams, had many interests, as diverse as radio equipment, welding services, and boat engines. As seemingly unfocused as their business interests may have been, there was one thing that they held passionate in all of their endeavors; that they would provide to the Portland, ME market the highest quality products and services available.
